Most babies are ready to start solids around 6 months. At this stage, your baby’s intestines are mostly developed—making it a good time to bring solids into the mix. 

Of course, every baby is unique. Milestones vary from child to child. You and only you know what is best for your baby. When you do feel ready to explore starting solids, look for clues that your child is feeling ready, too. 

They may be ready when: 

  • They hold their head steady
  • They sit up with minimal support
  • They show interest in your food 
  • They are drooling, show signs of pain or swelling in their gums, or seem more fussy than usual (little teeth coming in!)

How Do I Start? 

Introduce just one new food at a time. Wait 3-5 days between each new food to watch for reactions like diarrhea, hives difficulty breathing, or vomiting.

Choose one ingredient foods, no sugar or salt. No honey ever (even in baked goods).

8-10 months

Fruits: Blueberries, Cantaloupe, Cherries, Cranberries, Dates, Figs, Grapes, Kiwis, Papayas, Persimmons

Vegetables (cooked): Artichoke, Asparagus, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Eggplant, Fennel, Spinach, Mushrooms, Bell Peppers

Protein: Eggs, Beef

Dairy: Yogurt, Cottage Cheese
